Thailand remains the easiest big international holiday for Indian passport holders in 2026. Indian citizens can enter Thailand without a visa for up to 30 days for tourism only, under Thailand’s revised visa exemption scheme that took effect on 15 September 2026. Please note the change: the earlier scheme, under which Indians could stay up to 60 days, has been replaced — the 30-day tourism-only rule applies to entries from 15 September 2026, under Royal Gazette notifications published on 31 August 2026, while travellers who entered before that date keep the stay stamped in their passport at entry. That means no embassy visit, no visa fee and no waiting period for a short trip to Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya or Krabi. But “visa-free” does not mean “form-free”. Since May 2025, every non-Thai national must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before arrival, and immigration officers can still ask for a valid passport, a return ticket, hotel details and proof of funds. The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi also revised visa fees from 27 April 2026 for travellers who do need a visa, but that revision does not change the 30-day visa-free entry.

Who Gets 30 Days Visa-Free in Thailand?
Under Thailand’s visa exemption scheme, nationals of 60 countries and territories, including India, are entitled to visa exemption for tourism only, for a stay of up to 30 days. The stay can be extended once for up to another 30 days at a Thai Immigration office, for a fee of THB 1,900, but any extension is solely at the discretion of the immigration officer. Entries through land borders under this exemption are limited to a maximum of two per calendar year. This is a short-stay facility only: it does not allow full-time employment, long-term residence or study. Anyone planning to work or live in Thailand longer must apply for the correct non-immigrant visa before travelling, and no agent can honestly “convert” a visa-free entry into a work permit after arrival.
The TDAC: The One Form You Must Not Skip
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) replaced the old paper arrival form. According to Thailand Immigration’s official TDAC website, all non-Thai nationals must submit their travel information before arrival, whether they arrive by air, land or sea. You can submit the form up to 72 hours before entry, and it is valid for one entry only, so you must submit a fresh TDAC every time you enter Thailand. Children, including infants, also need a TDAC. You will need passport details, flight number and arrival date, your address in Thailand, travel purpose, health declaration information, and an email address. The official TDAC service is free — beware of unofficial websites that charge for it. Travellers only transiting without passing through immigration do not need a TDAC, but if you leave the airport, you do.
Documents Immigration May Ask For
Even with visa-free entry, the final decision at the border rests with the immigration officer. Keep these documents ready in original or clear digital form:
- Passport valid for at least six months beyond your stay
- TDAC confirmation
- Confirmed return or onward ticket — a one-way ticket is the single biggest reason Indian travellers face refusal or extra questioning
- Hotel booking confirmation, at least for the first night, with a verifiable address
- Proof of funds — travellers are commonly expected to show around 10,000 to 20,000 Thai Baht per person, in cash or as a bank balance
- Travel insurance details, if you have taken a policy
Answer honestly about your purpose, stay and accommodation. If your hotel cannot be verified or your return ticket is missing, entry can be refused even under the visa-free scheme.

Step-by-Step: Plan Your Thailand Trip in Order
- Check your passport validity and renew it first if it has less than six months left.
- Book your return flight and hotel, and keep both confirmations ready and verifiable.
- Submit the TDAC online within 72 hours before arrival, using the official Immigration portal only.
- Carry proof of funds and a simple, consistent itinerary.
- At immigration, answer honestly about your purpose, stay and accommodation.
- If you need more than 30 days, apply for the one-time extension of up to 30 days before your stay expires, or apply for a tourist e-Visa (60 days) via thaievisa.go.th, or the correct visa, in advance — never overstay and hope for the best.

Common Mistakes Indian Travellers Should Avoid
First, do not skip the TDAC and assume visa-free means form-free. Second, do not travel on a one-way ticket. Third, do not pay any unofficial website for the TDAC. Fourth, the proposed THB 300 entry charge has been discussed and delayed — check the official position before budgeting for it. Fifth, do not accept a “job in Thailand on visa-free entry” offer. Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Do Indians need a visa for Thailand in 2026?
No. Since 15 September 2026, Indian passport holders can enter visa-free for tourism only, for a stay of up to 30 days, under the exemption scheme. You must still complete the TDAC and meet the entry conditions.
Q2: Is the TDAC really mandatory?
Yes. Thailand Immigration requires every non-Thai national, including children, to submit a TDAC before arrival, for air, land and sea entry. It is free on the official portal and valid for one entry only.
Q3: Can I extend my 30-day stay?
You may apply for one extension of up to 30 days at a Thai Immigration office before your stay expires. The extension fee is THB 1,900, and approval is at the immigration officer’s discretion — it is not automatic.
Q4: Has the 300 Baht entry fee started?
It has been proposed for air arrivals and delayed several times. Do not assume it applies to your trip, and do not pay it through any unofficial channel. Check the official position before you travel.
Q5: Can I work in Thailand on visa-free entry?
No. The visa exemption is for tourism only — it does not cover any kind of work at all. Anyone travelling for work needs the correct visa and work authorisation obtained in advance.
